Freak of Nature (Editing Exercise #1)

For this the next five exercises, you will be focusing on photo editing and manipulation. You will first become familiar with using PixlrE (online photo editing software). You can click here to go to the online app. NOTE: There is more than one Pixlr App, so make sure you are using PixlrE NOT PixlrX.

Tutorial Videos: Click here to see a number of short tutorial videos on PixlrX. These videos might come in handy whenever you need a refresher on how the online app works.

Instructions:
  • Find two or more photos of creatures on planet Earth and use photoshop to combine these into a new "Freak of Nature" creation. These creatures are not to include any human beings (and, yes, that includes friends or members of your family).
  • Make sure to use copyright friendly or copyright free photos.
  • Some ideas are a "Spider Hippo" or a "Duck Giraffe" or a "Rat Gull." You decide.
  • HINT: You may want to choose 2 animals containing similar colours to help make the combination more realistic.
  • Use the PixlrE app to complete the assignment (see suggested tutorials below)
  • Also check out the example provided below (scroll down a bit)
  • When you have completed the activity, save your final image and import into a Google Document or Google Draw on Google Drive. Make sure to share the photo and the summary with your teacher (allancarterspace@gmail.com). Title it "Freak of Nature" and include your name in the title. Include a brief summary explaining the following:
Why you selected the animals you did.
What part was most challenging, what part was the easiest?
How realistic do you think your creation looks?
Have you used photo editing software before? If so, what did you use it for?

Example ("Doguin")
