As a concluding activity for this unit, you will select a topic of your choice on anything related to automotive technology and create a blog where you will display your research findings. You will use blogger.com to create your blog (accessible through your current Google Account).

Click here and click here to see student examples of this assignment (Jerrica M and Abby S.). It will give you an idea on what should be included in your blog. It will have:
  • An introduction (main page/post)
  • A page displaying your first section of information
  • A page displaying your second section of information
  • A page displaying your third section of information (optional)
  • A page displaying other resources about your topic that readers can check out (links and videos)
  • A page displaying ALL your source material (reference page)
When you have completed the assignment, make sure to share of a link to your blog assignment through Google Drive. 


Selecting your topic

This is an opportunity for you to explore anything related to automotive technology. You can extend on something we already looked at in this unit, or it can be something entirely new and different.

It can be something for which you have an interest or passion. It can be on cars and trucks, or any vehicle that uses an engine. So ATVs, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and even airplanes or helicopters can be selected.

Whatever topic you select, you will need to NARROW it down, so you can FOCUS on one aspect of your topic.

For example, if you selected snowmobiles as your topic, you need to decide what is it about snowmobiles you want to research. Will it be: snowmobiles for recreation; snowmobiles for work; which are the best models; or the history of snowmobiles. Those are all different aspects on the topic of snowmobiles. You need to select ONE OF THEM for your research assignment.

If you are unsure on what topic to select, here are some general suggestions. But remember, these topics have to be narrowed down so you have a focus when you gather your information:
  • Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles
  • Electric vehicles
  • NASCAR (have to narrow down the topic)
  • Emerging Technologies (consider some we studied or do an online search for ideas)
  • Most popular cars (have to narrow down and look at one to three of them)
  • Best designed cars (have to narrow down)
  • Worst designed cars (have to narrow down)
  • Antique cars/trucks (have to narrow down)
  • A particular model of a car or truck and a look at its history/popularity
  • How does a car engine work or what are the main parts of a car engine?
  • My dream car and why
  • The best vehicles for a tight budget
  • The most expensive vehicles available
Rubric (5 points each)
  • The introduction is effective and explains the purpose of the blog and what information is available on the blog for the reader.
  • The information presented for the topic is concise and informative and is simply not copied and pasted from other sources. There are at least two information pages on the blog.
  • The blog offers a helpful resource page that contains links and videos that will help the reader extend their understanding of this topic.
  • The blog offers a resource page that gives credit to all the sources used on the blog.
  • The blog has an effective layout and design that is appealing to the reader.
  • The blog offers images and/or graphics that are related to the information.
