It is important that we understand the risks of shopping online. While it is convenient and offers consumers more choices and prices, it does not come without some risks (like in the video you just viewed).
Canada's shoppers may finally be seeing a tangible price effect from online shopping. The same StatsCan report found e-commerce sales have jumped 49.6 per cent nationwide over the past year to $1.26 billion this past May, from $857 million the same month last year.
So what will be the implications for consumers as online shopping continues to grow? Will more and more traditional retail stores close?
Yet, while online shopping is growing, retail stores are still opening up. Take for instance, the new Ikea that opened in Halifax in September 2017. Four thousand customers lined up before the store opened, and hundreds of them even camped out over night. So there is still an appetite for shopping in stores.
