Ask yourself: Why do you think they are bad passwords. What makes them weak and easy to break?

View the video below and remember to carefully answer the questions because the answers to the videos are part of the assessment for this unit. Always watch a section again if you are unsure of the answer.

The above video contains good information, however, since the video was created it is now recommended to avoid common phrases when making passwords, and you should create a long password (at least 12 characters/letters). It is also recommended to use two-factor authentication whenever possible.

So how strong are your passwords?

While we should never give out our passwords, it is good sometimes to test our passwords to see how strong they are. Below is a site that you can check to see how strong a password is.

Using the method explained in the video (taking letters from a long phrase and adding characters and numbers), create a password with at least 12 characters/letters and test the password at the site that is linked below:

Click here to test the password you just created. Make sure to record how long it would take a computer to crack your password.

You can also use password managers to help you create and remember your password. One such password manager is called KeePass. Click here to go the site

Journal Entry

Consider the following questions when completing your journal entry in Google Docs (Google Drive). You will make one document for your journal entries for this unit. Title it "Journal Entries BBT". In the document put a subtitle "Journal #1 Digital Security". Complete the journal entry. You can also share it with your teacher through Google Drive and it will update each time you put in a new journal entry.
